Welcome to Basa Seafood Express, a hidden gem located right in the heart of Castro Valley! Situated at 2637 Castro Valley Blvd, this lively seafood eatery is quickly becoming a favorite among locals searching for fresh, affordable seafood options. With a phone call to +1 510-274-5678, you can place your order for one of their many delectable dishes and experience what has drawn so many patrons in.
Basa Seafood Express thrives on a simple yet satisfying premise: offering a diverse menu packed with everything from sushi and poke to fried seafood and burgers. Many customers, like Ivan Baradi, appreciate the easy-to-go format, making it the perfect spot for a quick lunch break. Whether you're dining in or grabbing a meal to enjoy elsewhere, the vibrant atmosphere—marked by friendly staff willing to assist with any questions—guarantees a pleasant experience.
A unique highlight of the menu is their poke, which is presented differently than traditional poke bowls. Instead of a customization approach, Basa offers their poke in a tray accompanied by rice and seaweed. This innovative twist speaks to their aim to provide both quality and convenience, earning praise from customers like Kyle Pace and Brian Le, who rave about the freshness and flavor of dishes like the spicy salmon poke.
Despite being a new addition to the area, Basa Seafood Express has quickly garnered a following, thanks to its reasonable pricing and generous portion sizes. Many, including Christopher Beaty, have noted that this establishment offers incredible value without sacrificing quality. Besides poke, the selection includes everything from sashimi to fried fish, ensuring that there’s something for everyone. However, be mindful of the small seating area—it tends to fill up quickly, and takeout is often the preferred dining style here, keeping the place buzzing with energy.
Overall, Basa Seafood Express (Castro Valley) stands out as a refreshing choice for seafood enthusiasts and casual diners alike. With an emphasis on fresh ingredients, varied offerings, and a commitment to quality service, this is one culinary spot that promises to leave your taste buds satisfied. If you’re in the neighborhood, make sure to stop by and indulge in their seafood delights!
“ Loving seeing all these great new eateries pop up in my hometown, and this on took over the former Dell Cafe. Basa offers a nice variety of seafood snacks at very reasonable prices, so before you balk at the serving sizes, know you're getting a great value for the price. I had no expectations going in, but if I had, they would have been met. The only item I would not repeat was the scallop burger, which I was kind of skeptical about in the first place. Quality and flavor were fine, but the breading came off and there just wasn't enough protein. I'd say it will probably see a lot more take out than dine in, but there is ample space if you do decide to chow down on site. All in all, friendly service, and great value for quick and tasty seafood meals. ”
“ I really enjoy coming here for a quick bite to eat for lunch. I think the pricing for their food is pretty fair and really enjoy the format that they have for their pricing. The combos make things very easy if you want a meal that has water, rice, the main and a salad side. Our favorites are the spicy salmon poke. They started serving sushi rolls as well and I thought they were very good. The staff is very helpful and will help answer questions that you may have. They also offer catering as well, if you give them some advanced notice. ”
“ Perfect for grab and go. Poke are super cheap and delicious. They also have rolls if you want to wait for it. There’s tables, seats, bathrooms, and plenty of parking. ”
“ Location is really nice then Castro valley. The staff was amazing and very professional. Food came out real fast. And so many options. The only issue I did not get five stars was due to the rice. One of the meals it comes with white rice. Sadly the white rice was chewy and hard. So I had to throw it away when I got home and make fresh rice. So definitely check your rice before you leave. ”
“ Fresh, high-quality seafood! The sashimi and poke were super fresh, and the flavors were spot on. Service was quick and friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. Great local gem in Castro Valley. ”
“ This place popped up on social media and heard that they serve fresh seafood. So I decided to come here. This place seems to be one of those restaurants where you go for lunch and have it to go. Many people were seated on the tables not to really dine in, but to wait for their orders. It serves all sorts of seafood: sushi, burgers, fried seafood, poke, etc. I heard that their main location is at SF, but they recently opened their other location in Castro Valley. Normally when you go out to eat poke, you choose your base, protein, sauces, and other toppings. This one is different because poke is served in a tray with a side of rice and seaweed. I heard that they’re out of spicy salmon poke, but there’s some in the display glass. However, I think we’re told that they need to chill them first before serving them. Prices are fairly cheap. It’s like going to fast food, but fresher. ”
“ Solid restaurant. More takeout than dine-in. Everything served as to-go but they do have seats. Small, so it can get crowded. Extensive menu for sushi etc. Food was solid. Nothing spectacular, but all very decent. The spicy salmon poke did taste a bit off, but might have been just me. Fried fish was really good and I usually don’t like the corn meal breading. Sushi was just ok. Their fish looks fresh and appetizing. I don’t think I’ll come here on the regular, but I definitely will consider it an option! ”
